Video-Conferencing

All of the schools have been busy these past few days video-conferencing with one another. Unfortunately, the English and Northern Irish schools were having some technical issues, so didn't manage to chat. However, they have started correspondence by post and will be trying to video-conference again next week.

Here are some photos from the schools that did manage to talk to one another last week:

Lights, Camera, Action!

The schools involved in the "Travelling Towards Multicultural Europe" project are scheduled to video-conference with one another at the end of this week. Hopefully, all partner schools will give us an update about what was discussed and share with us the information that they gathered.

The English and Northern Irish schools are having some minor technical difficulties at the moment, but are hoping to video-conference with one another next week instead, fingers crossed.

Year 6 pupils at Stanley Primary School in Blackpool have nevertheless been busy today preparing questions to ask their counterparts at Botanic Primary School in Belfast. They were keen to find out what time school in Belfast starts and finishes and what lessons they have. They also wanted to know what Botanic's school uniform looks like. They were curious about whether the Northern Irish children have the same hobbies as they do and whether they play the same games.

Hopefully, they will be able to remedy the technical issues and get to ask their questions very soon!

In the meanwhile, they have posted their questions off to the Northern Irish school, via "snail mail".

Here is the envelope (complete with stickers) and some examples of the letters we sent:

Forging Connections

Here are the names of the schools which are participating in the "Travelling Towards Multicultural Europe" project.

Comenius Corners

Each school involved in the "Travelling Towards Multicultural Europe" project has been given the task of creating a "Comenius Corner" to inform their pupils, staff and visitors about the aims of the project. Schools can approach this in a variety of ways, but the Comenius Corner will invariably have a colourful display at its heart.

In the photos that follow, you can see the Comenius Corners of the Spanish, Polish, Northern Irish, Greek, Italian, Turkish and English partner schools. They have both done an amazing job on their displays. We can't wait to see how they develop over the course of the project.

Hello Europe!

Welcome to the blog of our "Travelling Towards Multicultural Europe" project.

Logo created by the Turkish school
The countries involved in the project are Spain, Poland, Greece, Italy, Turkey and the United Kingdom (Northern Ireland and England).

Over the course of the project, the schools from each country will collaborate and share work on a common theme. We will follow the itinerary of someone travelling from one partner country to the next. Many different forms of transport will be employed, such as train, boat, hot-air balloon and aeroplane.

Each school will talk about the history of their chosen form of transport and describe its current and historical importance in their country.

They will also compare life and culture in the partner countries, and say what things are similar and what things are different.

--------------------------------------------------

Representatives from each country, with the exception of Turkey unfortunately, recently met in Belfast at Botanic Primary School. Everyone had a wonderful time looking around the school, meeting the staff and children and seeing some of the amazing things Belfast has to offer. The visiting teachers were really lucky to be able to go to Stormont, the government buildings, where they had a delicious dinner with one of the junior ministers. They also visited the Titanic Experience, which was fascinating.

The teachers then travelled to Blackpool, where they were treated to a performance of a "Harvest Festival" by the infant children, as well as an assembly about the town by the Year 5s at Stanley Primary School. Everyone enjoyed experiencing the iconic Blackpool Tower and the Zoo

The schools involved in the project have been busy this past week voting on a mascot to represent the project. Everyone has their own favourite mascot and we're all excited to find out the result!

Here are the (potential) mascots!
